More than just technologists.
We believe that effective IT professionals must be more than just technologists. They need to be skilled in three "sports":

  • Technology
  • Business Knowledge
  • Communications

Of course, as with other triathletes, there are varying degrees of proficiency in each of the three areas. However, we find that employees with an upbeat, optimistic attitude and the ability to solve problems without too much oversight can develop the breadth required of an IT Triathlete.

Technology.
The first sport is technical depth and it has to be the foundation sport for an IT professional. A major in computer science, computer engineering, or information systems is a great way to start building this foundation. Successively more challenging projects and exposure to a variety of technologies helps deepen this foundation.

At Trident Technologies, our engineers are expected to participate in a wide range of engagements using multiple technologies. For example, a senior software engineer might serve as an architect on a software development engagement, then as a project manager on a systems integration effort, and then as a management consultant helping a client with a build-or-buy analysis. Meeting these types of challenges requires a commitment to lifelong learning as well as a desire to continually improve.

Business Knowledge.
Our clients expect us to deeply understand their business in order to help them use technology to succeed. Knowledge of fundamental business processes helps us have a framework for learning the intricacies of our clients' businesses.

We develop strong, trusted relationships with the people that are integral to the success of our clients. We do all this so that we can become strategic partners with our clients, generating the best solutions, and providing the best service. We do this so that we can become the partner of choice for our clients.

Communications.
The third sport required of an IT Triathlete is communication skills. If we can't communicate effectively, then it doesn't matter how strong we are in technology or business. And make no mistake, IT is a communication intensive profession. We have to be able to write effectively, speak well, build engaging presentations, and deal with issues as they arise.
